Monday Postcard from Little Venice, London

Posted on June 12, 2017June 10, 2017 by emiglia

1. By now, I’m a bit of a London pro. I’ve been countless times, and while on each of my visits, I discover something new, the truth is, I was kind of convinced that London didn’t have any surprises left in store for me.

Apparently, I was wrong.

My best friend’s hairdresser made the suggestion that we visit Little Venice this trip, and as unlikely a source as that is, it was right on the money.

2. Little Venice is located just north of Paddington, where the Grand Union and Regent’s Canals meet. The neighborhood is beautiful to walk around, with lots of cafés overlooking the water.

3. There are also quirky boats to look at throughout the canal. I particularly liked this one with a swan on its prow.

4. While many of the boats are houseboats and thus closed to visitors, some of the boats are actually waterbuses. There are a few options that you can take for an exploratory tour of the canal, which stops within the London Zoo. It’s about an hour and a half to go all along the canal and back, though when we took a tour, we opted for a one-way journey.

5. That’s because the second and final stop on the journey (before the boat returns to Little Venice) is Camden. But to find out more about that, you’re just going to have to come back tomorrow.

(Hint: there was a lot of food involved.)
