Sorry for my unforeseen absence! I’ve been home celebrating Christmas with my family for the first time in three years, and part of the celebration has been unplugging a bit. It’s been lovely, to say the least.
I don’t have many recipes to share from this Christmas. After all, while at home, my mom is the chef. That said, since I haven’t been home for the past few Christmases, I’ve developed my own traditions in Paris, namely a fish-based dinner on Christmas Eve. While Italian tradition dictates that there be seven fishes, I think the most I’ve ever managed to get in were four. After all, I was only serving two of us.
I did, however, have fun doing a plated dinner — something really different from the buffet Christmases I grew up with.
I start things off with a potato rosti topped with a chive crème fraiche and smoked salmon.
Next, I do lobster ravioli with a crab and crayfish tomato cream sauce.
I finished things off with a far breton, a custardy French cake made with prunes.
While nothing can compare to Christmas at home, I loved combing through these photos of our last little Christmas in our old place. I definitely miss that mantelpiece, which I always decorated with pine branches and advent candles.
One thing I don’t miss, though?
Those horrible grey plates.
Merry Christmas!
