Café Les Deux Gares is Just as Delightful at Dinner

Posted on June 25, 2024June 14, 2024 by emiglia

I was particularly chuffed to get the chance to return to Café les Deux Gares for dinner recently, nine months after I had such a drawdropping lunch I went so far as to declare it my new local.

Le Vaillant Would Have Been My Neighborhood Staple

Posted on March 5, 2024March 2, 2024 by emiglia

For as wary as I am of hyperbole, flawless is truly the only term I can use to describe the dining experience at this tiny pocket of a bistro overlooking the Canal Saint-Martin.

La Taverne De ZHAO Is As Good As They Say

This noodle spot takes no reservations, but it’s totally worth the wait.

Café Les Deux Gares May Well Be My New Local

Posted on October 3, 2023October 2, 2023 by emiglia

I am not the first to fall for Café les Deux Gares; it’s already been lauded by far mightier pens than mine. But thanks to the friendly staff, cozy dining room, and view over the train tracks of Gare de l’Est (I promise, it’s dreamier than it sounds), it may well have secured its spot as my new local.

Mamagoto Is A Franco-Japanese Fusion Spot Worth a Return Trip

Posted on May 23, 2023May 20, 2024 by emiglia

Self-styled as a “Franco-Japanese cantine,” the latter word a common reference to a local’s spot, the sort of restaurant where you can stop in and grab a bite and feel like a regular, Mamagoto has been on my list of spots to try for quite some time.

Ippudo Ramen is “The Most Famous Tonkatsu Ramen Shop” in Japan – and I’ve Got One Down the Block

Posted on May 9, 2023April 20, 2023 by emiglia

Ippudo is a Japanese chain boasting a few outposts in Paris. The menu is pleasantly short, featuring thrree donburi bowls and three types of ramen – shoyu, veggie, and tonkatsu – each of which can be dressed up as “tamago” (with egg) or “special (with even more toppings) for just a few extra euro.

I Almost Didn’t Tell You About Chez Marius

Posted on November 29, 2022 by emiglia

Chez Marius is barely ten minutes from my home, and I’d been walking past it for months before, last week, I finally paid it a visit with a friend.

The Brunch at Fontaine de Belleville is Excellent – And Massive

Posted on October 4, 2022September 29, 2022 by emiglia

My only complaint about Fontaine de Belleville’s brunch is how massive it is.

For A Brunch That Won’t Break the Bank (or Your Wallet) Hightail it to 5 Pailles

Posted on September 6, 2022September 5, 2022 by emiglia

Thanks to its commitment to simplicity (and fairness) 5 Pailles is my brunchtime go-to in Paris.

I Keep Wanting to Like Gros Bao More Than I Do

Posted on July 12, 2022June 16, 2022 by emiglia

Gros Bao is certainly a fun place to dine with great views over the Canal Saint-Martin. But as the panoply of choices in Belleville are a mere 15 minutes’ walk away, it’s not going to become my regular any time soon.
