Overall, I was nonplussed by my experience at Les Collonges, and doubly disappointed given the genial service, beautiful dining room, and the high hopes I’d had. So did I visit on an off night? Am I missing something? I’m not sure, but I’m willing to have my mind changed.

Vivide is a Fine Dining Love Letter to Plant-Based Food
Plant-based fine dining is not fully rooted in France yet, but at Vivide, the new fine dining spot from the team behind Pristine, it is definitely taking on a French accent I cannot help but fall for.
Le Coq et Fils Is a Delicious Ode To Roast Chicken – with a Cheap Cheat Code
At Le Coq et Fils, located at the top of the picturesque, ultra-touristy butte Montmartre, Westermann showcases the crème de la crème of French fowl, sourcing pedigreed chickens from across France and giving them the spa treatment for a cuisine that, he says, “doesn’t look to shock or stun but to make people feel.” And he succeeds – mostly.
On Second Thought… Chez Eugène is Kind of Odd
Ultimately, Chez Eugène is a good place to go for classics and a great glass of natural wine, but I can’t in good faith recommend it for anything else.
L’Almanach Montmartre is Innovating Delicious Flavor Combos in a Warm, Cozy Space
This ultra-creative restaurant is sure to surprise even your most adventurous foodie friends, and yet there’s something here for everyone. The portions are generous – even copious – especially for the price.
Double is a Micro-Restaurant Loaded with Originality
The daring and creativity of Chef Tsuyoshi Yamakawa cannot be denied, but Double is not a restaurant I’d recommend to just anyone. The no-choice prix fixe means you cannot be picky, and above all, the shared format means you’ll need to go with someone you know quite well.
If You’re Going to Eat on Place du Tertre, Do it at Chez Eugène
Is Chez Eugène a restaurant I would cross Paris for? Probably not – and especially not for its austere dining room, with its grey walls, black leather, and unflattering lighting. But I’m glad to know that at least one spot on the bustling Place du Tertre offers this lovely play of generosity and welcome, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to eat tasty food and drink delicious wines with an incomparable view.
A.Lea Marries Fine Dining and Comfort Food to Perfection
The dining room here is convivial and warm, loaded with a balance of locals and foreigners, which makes sense given the proximity to the Butte Montmartre. With a small menu that changes regularly, I’ll definitely be back to see what else they have in store.
Mokko’s Out-There Dishes Are Divisive in Their Creativity
Mokko may look like a run-of-the-mill neo-bistro, with tiled floors, bare wood tables, and a chalkboard menu. But there’s something so incredibly creative going on in the kitchen here, creativity so out-there that it can prove divisive. But when it lands, it’s pretty extraordinary.
L’Arpaon Blends Comfort and Voyage in a Refined Bistro Ambiance
L’Arpaon’s small, square dining room is at once cozy and expansive thanks to the open kitchen, mirror lining one side, and light wood furnishings, but the warmth comes too – and perhaps even more so – thanks to the friendly service, which seems truly kind, and the sense that nearly everyone in the space is a local.
