The restaurant toes the line of a bistro, with all-day opening hours from 8:30am from Tuesday through Saturday. The resulting space blends a daytime café vibe, complete with an affordable chalkboard prix fixe, with the allure of a serious restaurant come evening, when the menu remains rooted in the tenets of French tradition with some unapologetic international twists.

The food at Le Grand Bain has always been innovative, but these days, it’s off-roading – and sometimes, that adventurousness pays off. It’s a great place to get cerebral with fellow food nerds, but if you want to avoid awkwardness, steer clear of visiting with strangers.

Au Boeuf Couronné is one of the old guard spots I’m thrilled still exist in Paris. From its beautiful dining room to the little touches like massive steak knives and crumb removal service to the fact that it’s open every day of the week, it’s an excellent spot to have in your back pocket.

At seafood-driven small plates spot Soces, the front-of-house folks manage to be genial, informed, present, and still friendly and as casual as a spot like this merits. And there’s perhaps nowhere you can eat this creatively for less.
