Tricotin’s the Place to Be for Dim Sum

Posted on March 3, 2020 by emiglia

I usually reserve my forays into dim sum for London or New York, but every once in a while, I get a hankering for dumplings when I’m in Paris. On those days, I go to Tricotin.

I don’t know if Tricotin is still the best dim sum in Paris. It certainly seemed to be when I started going there about six or seven years ago, and ever since, it’s been my favorite place to stop after visiting Paris Store and Tang Frères to stock up on gomasio and chili paste.

Unlike at dim sum places in New York, at Tricotin, you order from a menu rather than off of a cart. My order stays (almost) resolutely the same on each visit and always includes the turnip cakes with bacon up top.

These rice noodle rolls – which the French call rice crêpes – are definitely on the table too. I always opt for the shrimp filling, and the sauce they come with is unreal.

I swear these pork-stuffed buns are more delicious than this unfortunate picture lets on: savory and sweet, rich and sticky with sauce.

By comparison, the siu mai are far simpler, but they’re tasty too. In addition to the fried and steamed dumpling selection, Tricotin also serves larger plates – things like stir fry and noodles. That said, I’ve always found that sticking to the dim sum is the way to go. It’s tasty and cheap, and it’s the perfect way to enjoy a brunch in Paris you don’t have to queue for.

Thank you so much for this! We used to have dim sum for brunch every Sunday when we lived in San Francisco and we miss it! We’ll definitely be trying this place out.
